How can I fix my xbox live update after 2010?

When I updated my xbox 360 for the upgrade has removed 2010 all my friends and will not let me play on Xbox Live. He told me to go into settings and change my online security, but when I do that it does not change the fact that all my friends are deleted and I can not play online so I can not send messages but I can not recive
