Modifying a US Super Nintendo controller to look like the Japanese Super Famicom controller?

The Jap controller I guess will only work with the Japanese system, not with a United States SNES console.

The only difference I can find via searching between the US SNES and the Japanese Super Famicom controllers is that the ABXY buttons are convex on one and concave on the other.

My best guess is that you can interchange the housing and buttons no problem so long as you know a little bit about electronics.
