Zelda Link Past

Help in Zelda a link to the past on the Wii?

Heres the thing. I downloaded the game Zelda link to the past on the Wii. this was a great game for the SNES. I am using the GameCube controller to play it. the thing is, I can not figure out how to save the game. If I remember when I played this game, you can save whenever you want. the only thing I can think is that you must select a button to get a Save menu, and the GameCube controller does not have one. but then why does it still allow someone to play with the GameCube controller if you can not save it. Somebody knows something. how do you save the game.

I have not bought a SNES game on virtual console so I can test this, but I think Z would be on GameCube could function as select. She and the C-stick are the only things free after SNES buttons assigned to their counterparts GameCube.
